L. Michael Hager’s “The Queue and Warriors”

Check it out!

Our classmate, L. Michael (Mike) Hager (https://www.amazon.com/author/lmichaelhager), has recently published “The Queue (a novella) and Warriors (a trilogy of plays)”.

Aging, generational conflict and mortality are the themes.

Set in the not too distant future, The Queue describes the horrors faced by citizens of advanced age when they are forced by a planetary leader into a seemingly endless line toward an unknown destination.  Joining the queue to assist his parents, a middle-aged narrator describes the ordeals that he and his companions endure over a challenging 40 days.   At the same time he shares existential questions and memories that help him survive.

Believe it or not!  As you can infer from the book website (http://www.thequeueandwarriors.com), the novella is a diary of 40 days that involves a huge, ugly machine that makes a terrifying sound.  When Mike started to write the novella during a brief visit to France in September 2010, he had no idea that ten months later he would be undergoing 40 days of radiation therapy for prostate cancer and that each day would put him into the bowels of a huge, ugly machine that made a terrifying sound.

In a trilogy of absurdist drama, Warriors offers three humorist takes on aging, each of them grappling with end-of-life scenarios.

A couple of good reviews can be found at amazon.com and barnesandnoble.com.  However, be forewarned: some may get depressed.

“…It may be one of the  most important books you ever read.”

CHINA: WORLD-BEATER?

When I experienced Shanghai (at the beginning of my China trip in October, 2011), I thought: Wow, maybe China is going to be #1 quite soon. However, during the rest of the trip, I was impressed by the reality that China has its share of problems (just like the United States and every other country). WHAT DO YOU THINK: WILL CHINA BE #1 QUITE SOON? WHY OR WHY NOT? WHAT DOES BEING #1 MEAN?

What Ron Goodman said…

Have you seen this interview with Ron Goodman?

The Latest from Roger Folts ’60

I’ve been retired for the last seven years, having served as CFO and general manager in several companies.  At this point, I am thoroughly enjoying retirement.  Having lived in the Philadelphia area for over 30 years, we are now contemplating moving down to Florida where our daughter lives.

My wife, Barbara, continues to maintain her private practice as a licensed psychologist.  She has added another title, past life therapist, and is excited to work in this area as well.  Her book, “Hidden Treasures from Past Lives”, has been published as an e-book and paperback and we are now involved in the marketing effort.  The book explores how reincarnation impacts our current lives and includes many case histories and ways to uncover and heal past life legacies.  Here is her website.
